The universe of Vikings, the TV series aired from 2013 to 2021 and focused on the adventures of the Viking warrior Ragnarr Loðbrók, is ready to expand. As reported by Deadline, Prime Video has in fact announced Bloodaxe, a spin-off series created, written and produced by Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst.
The production is entrusted to MGM Television. According to the first previews, the new series will be set a few decades after the events of Vikings and before the events of the other spin-off series Vikings: Valhalla.

Bloodaxe will tell the story of the rise of one of the most famous Viking warriors in history, Erik Bloodaxe, and his powerful wife, Gunnhild, the Mother of Kings. In a time when Norway is torn apart by a struggle for the throne, the land is marked by bloody rivalries, unstable alliances and deadly betrayals.
As the forces prepare for war and the entire kingdom is threatened, other Scandinavian kings and a powerful English king also intervene in the power struggle. In this scenario, a Viking saga full of drama, betrayal and twists comes to life. The series will be executive produced by Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst alongside Steve Stark, head of Toluca Pictures and head of MGM Television, Morgan O’Sullivan, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.
