Chhaava Movie Review: Period movies are old movies that our directors are trying to follow in their footsteps by selecting their favorite costume dramas. The Bollywood period movie 'Chhaava', released as a 'Valentine's Day' gift, belongs to that category. Watching this movie, we cannot help but remember many period movies we have seen in the past.

Chhaava is the most revered figure of the Maratha warriors. The film 'Chhaava' is based on the story of his son, Chhaava. 'Chhaava' means lion cub! The Marathas consider Shivaji to be a lion. That is why they called Sambhaji 'Chhaava'. Laxman Utekar, who earned good marks as a director with 'Luka Chuppi', has directed the film 'Chhaava' with his 'Jara Hatke Jara Bachke' hero Vicky Kaushal.

Rashmika Mandanna is playing the female lead! Dinesh Vijan, who scored a blockbuster hit with 'Stree-2' last year, has produced this film. In the publicity, it was said that it is a film coming from the makers of 'Stree-2'. The story of 'Chhaava' continues with the narration of Bollywood hero Ajay Devgan.

Chhaava Movie Story:

After Chhatrapati Shivaji, his son Shambhaji took power, and then fought many wars and tried to expand the Hindu empire. 'Chhaava' was also made based on them. Everyone knows that Chhatrapati Shivaji sent chills down the spine of the Mughal emperors.

After his death, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb hoped to bring the Maratha kingdom under his control. Not only does Sambhaji drive out the Mughal forces within his own territory, but he also expands the anti-Mughal kingdom around him. Aurangzeb sends a proposal to Sambhaji.

The proposal is that if Sambhaji converts to Islam and accepts his sovereignty, he can rule the Maratha kingdom as he pleases. To this, Sambhaji replies that he will accept the proposal if Aurangzeb's daughter is given to him in marriage. A fight is inevitable. Finally, what happened to Sambhaji's son? What did Aurangzeb do? The story continues with the topics.

Chhaava Movie Analysis:

The story of the life of Shivaji's son Sambhaji is told from different angles. However, this film is based on 'Chava' by Shivaji Sawant. Some changes and additions were made to it. Director Laxman Utekar, along with Rishi Virmani and Omkar Mahajan, created the screenplay.

The plot reminds us of the period movie 'Padmaavat' and the earlier 'Jodha Akbar'. The climax scenes of the Mughal princess Nissa Begum remind us of the iconic scenes from Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of Christ'.

It must be said that the music of A.R. Rahman has brought life to this film. The dialogues written by Rishi Virmani and Irshad Kamil are reminiscent of the movie 'Anarkali, Mughal-e-Azam'. Among the actors, Vicky Kaushal scores the best marks. The rest also struggled to do justice to the roles they got.

Diana Pinty's performance as the Mughal princess is impressive. Rashmika has sung her own song as the queen. Even though Akshaye Khanna plays Aurangzeb, it takes time to recognize him due to the excessive prosthetic makeup. The song "Aayare Toofan..." is impressive.

But, it is worth noting that Rahman's old songs are heard in it! Saurabh Goswami's cinematography has highlighted the war scenes. Dinesh Vijan's production values are of a high standard. However, at present, the wind of 'Hindutva' is blowing all over the country. In this context, it can be said that 'Chava' has the potential to impress many.
